Tamiya Wild One Project
Page 2: Upgrades!
Years ago I bought a 3D printed engine for the Fast Attack Vehicle but
then decided not to use it so I saved it for the Wild One instead.
I thought it would look better with the style of the Wild One.
The engine consists of two parts: a cap and an exhaust. The main
part has air filters, a distributor, a coil, the top of a belt, and a single
cylinder head. The exhaust includes a muffler. Both are
printed in white as shown. I painted them with metallic paint and
then did some detail work by hand.
In order to make this look like a complete engine, I also painted
the plastic gearbox in aluminum. Once the 3D printed parts are
attached, the completed assembly looks like a motor and transmission.
These photos compare the rear of the model before and after the engine
was installed. Before the gearbox is clearly plastic and not much
detail is evident even though the red gear cover has some cooling fins
on it. After painting and adding the engine parts, we get the
photo on the right which looks really good.
