The
G-Made Komodo is a full time 4WD crawler with solid axles and 4-link
suspension front and rear. I usually only buy a new model if it
brings something new to my collection and these features are pretty much
redundant with the Axial SCX10, but I just wanted to know more about
this mysterious Korean company and their super cool looking truck.I bought the kit version which comes packaged very nicely with well printed instructions. As for quality, the kit uses Phillips screws instead of hex hardware but that's no different than Tamiya. The quality of the screws was a little lower; I found the steel a bit soft sometimes. There were several errors in the instructions in which the noted part numbers were not correct, but if you've built kits before it was not that difficult to figure out the correct parts from the pictures. Except for the chassis rails and diff covers, pretty much everything is plastic. I don't think the gears in the transmission are very precise because it was really loud for the first month or so until they wore in.
The body is polycarbonate and needs painting, but unlike most Lexan bodies it comes with a huge pile of plastic parts to attach including a front brush guard, mirrors, snorkel, roof rack, shovel, and traction boards. There are also light buckets ready to receive a lighting kit.
The performance with a 35 turn brushed motor is quite good. With locked diffs and no center diff, it has lots of power to the ground. The tires are really rugged and soft and grip well. I drove the model in totally stock form for about 6 months and was quite happy with it, but when the Proline Dodge Power Wagon body was released I knew it needed a home and this model was a good fit for it, so I did a conversion and added some other upgrades at the same time including a winch and a light kit.
Update: This model was destroyed in the 2022 fire. It has not been replaced.
