The TB Evolution III comes in a box that is
different in size and shape than any other Tamiya models, but the same
form factor and style as the original Evo. The box is wide
and flat with a flap top and a
carrying handle. The Surikarn edition uses an even more special
box which is black and has a slip cover with lots of color photos
whereas the standard box is white with no graphics at all.
This special box has lots of information about Surikarn, his race
victories, and what this version of the chassis special compared with
the standard Evo III. The text on the label is partially in
Japanese. There is no denying that Tamiya intended to make the
packaging special.
Let's take a look inside the box. There is a smaller box and a pile of
plastic bags containing all the plastic
parts. The chassis plates and instruction manual are hidden at the
bottom. The inner box features a photo of Surikarn and more
information about the custom parts in this model. Inside the inner
box are four labeled hardware bags and lots of red anodized aluminum
goodness including the drive shaft, suspension mounts, motor mounts,
heat sink, and axles. Virtually all of the screws in the set are
titanium with hex drive heads.
The basic sticker sheet is identical to the one from the original Evo,
but if you flip the bag over you'll find another TRF sticker sheet with
some unique Evo3 markings.
This is interesting given that the Evo III was never marketed as a TRF
model.
Let's take a closer look at the parts. In the first photo,
I've knolled out all the parts. Then I zoom in on the manual and
the hardware. The third photo is a close-up of the plastic parts
trees. Finally, I show the carbon chassis plates and shock
parts. I know that was a lot of words just about a box and its
contents, but there was a lot to say!
