The 58079
Egress was the 3rd iteration of the Avante chassis and came out in
1989, only a year after the original Avante. While the Vanquish
could be considered a somewhat simplified version of the complicated
Avante, the Egress went the other direction and tried to make a full
race chassis while fixing some of the issues with the original.
The double deck chassis was resurrected, this time in carbon fiber but
with the bigger plate on the bottom instead of the top. The
simplified plastic suspension, longer wheelbase, and traditional wheels
were carried forward from the Vanquish, but a new set of cylindrical pin
tires were introduced. A brand new set of hi-cap (High Capacity)
aluminum dampers with a larger diameter were introduced. The
planetary gear differentials were replaced with ball differentials, and
the center diff with a one-way. Finally, the price was about 40%
more than the original Avante and almost twice as much as the Vanquish
at 44,000¥. It's not obvious to me why it cost so much more than
the Avante with less complexity in many ways and no motor.![]() Page 1: Assembly |
