Tamiya Clod Buster Gray Project

clod    clod

I've built two Clod Busters before, the "original" 58518 Super Clod Buster which I customized greatly and the 47432 Clod Buster Black Edition which I left stock.  Both of them were destroyed in the 2022 fire, so when the Gray Edition was announced, I figured I might as well get that one both as a replacement, and as a way to do something at least slightly new

Like the original Clod Buster, this is a real scale monster truck with solid axles, four wheel drive, four wheel steering, giant tires, 8 huge shocks, and a scale body that looks an awful lot like a 1983 Chevy truck (the body was originally a licensed Chevy, but no longer uses the logo in the latest incarnation).  It uses a single chassis mounted servo for 4WS and the power system is a pair of 540 sized motors mounted directly to the axles.  The overall layout is pretty accurate to a real monster truck.

This time around, I left the build almost stock except I replaced the silver cans with 17T motors from Yeah Racing which was made possibly by the included Hobbywing 880 twin motor ESC.  This gave me enough power to pull wheelies and enough speed to get the shimmy of death, so I think I've successfully maxed out on power.  I'm pretty happy with the final result.  I used a pathetic analog servo again because this chassis was designed for those old servos and anything stronger just gets lost in the servo saver.
