The Speed Slammers were a new kind of competitive play set released in
2000 and
2001.
These small models had only a single function: being blasted across the
room. Each came with a launcher which, when "slammed" with a
fist, rotated a pair of 10L axles to propel the vehicle forward at high
speeds. Rubber bands would then return the launcher to the
starting position. The launchers could be bussed together so that a
single slam could launch multiple models for a race. In general,
the larger models always win the race because they track straighter and
are less affected by friction.

The
8241 Battle Cars don't exactly fit here, but they are generally
considered part of this line. These are more like
Competition sets.
This type of model would be replaced in later years by the
Racers line and no longer be included as Technic.
