Arrma Typhon Project

This is my first (and so far only) Arrma product.  In general I am not a fan of RTR models because I would much rather build them myself.  However, after divesting my collection of most of my Traxxas products, I felt there was a hole that needed filling.  I needed a vehicle that had insane performance, was waterproof, and I could just generally beat to hell without worrying about the work I put into it.  This 1/8 scale brushless buggy which accepts 6s Li-Po power seemed to fit the bill.  It has 4 wheel double wishbone suspension, four wheel shaft drive with 3 differentials, and is just generally made out of indestructible stuff.  The tires are not too good though.  Within the first week 3 of them split open and threw out the foams.  When I bought new tires I found the old ones could not be removed because the nuts were installed so tight they crushed the plastic into the threads.  They had to be cut off.

All of the electronics are still stock.  The only changes I have made are to switch to a Spektrum receiver so I can use my normal radio, and to change a few parts to make this more like the 2018 version of the Typhon instead of the 2017 version.  This includes some shock protectors.  When you flip the buggy (which happens a lot) the highest point is the front shock caps which drag on the ground.  The covers protect the caps.

The model is crazy fast and durable, but pretty bad in the jumps.  It noses forward heavily which usually results in a flip.  You have to stay hard on the throttle in the air to keep the nose up.

I eventually sold this model to someone at my local hobby store after I bought the Proline ProMT which scratched all the itches this model was originally intended to.

These pictures show the front shocks before and after the shock cap protectors were installed.   It required changing a few support parts.

The stock tires are really bad as discussed above.  I thought it might just be that the box sat for a long time and the tires weathered, but a new set failed just as fast.  I replaced them all with Proline tires which have been much better.  I am really terrible at gluing them though.  Buggy tires seem particularly difficult because there is no bead.
