SCX6 Project

The box this truck comes in is truly enormous. In fact, it
wouldn't fit on my building table so I had to photograph it on my bench
in the garage. In the box you get the assembled truck along with
the capable Spektrum 3 channel transmitter shown. The transmitter
has the handy thumb tab on the steering wheel for one-handed
driving. The truck is pretty much ready to go except that there
are no stickers yet on the tail lights. Adding them for some
contrast makes the rear end look much more realistic.
Here is the massive chassis. Note the molded inner fenders and the
body mounts which are hidden in the bumpers. Note also the
multiple battery locations. Seen from below, the body reveals the
full length interior and many of the the molded accessories which help
to stiffen the body in addition to making it more realistic.
I don't know if this faux V-8engine looks anything like that in a real
Wrangler, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Like the
engine in the SCX10 III, it has only one head and the other side is
consumed by the steering servo. The right hand picture shows the
front suspension with huge (10mm dia) links and panhard bar. Note
the smooth bottom of the skid plate.
Here's the soda can sized brushless motor mounted nice and low in the
chassis which has an integrated wire keeper. That full size servo
you see behind the gearbox is for shifting the transmission.
Let's do some size comparisons. On the left you can see a standard
540 sized motor next to the Spektrum behemoth in the SCX6. On the
right you can see the 10mm links compared so a more standard (but still
sizeable) 7mm link.
Here are the 6.5" BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KM3 tires next to some
stock tires from a Tamiya CC-01. Speaking of which, on the right
you can see the SCX6 Wrangler next to a Tamiya CC-01 based Wrangler.
