I had an 2013 Egress re-release new in box when my
2022 fire happened, so I never had a chance to build it. By the
time I was looking to replace my collection, it was no longer
available. This Egress Black Edition came out later in 2022 and
seemed like a reasonable substitute. It is identical to the
regular Egress except for the color of the stickers, wheels, and
anodize. I didn't actually want a black version, so my plan was to
get an aftermarket sticker set and paint it to look like a standard
Egress (even though some other colors would be wrong). By the time
I got around to actually building it in 2026, the regular Egress was
available again. How to crack this dilemma? I just got both
and display them together.
Since I built the black version before the regular version, I will go
through all the differences between the Egress and the Vanquish and
Avante in my build journal below, and the regular Egress will just point
to this one for details. I decided to make this one my runner and
leave the other one on the shelf. The kit doesn't come with a
motor, but I knew it needed more than just a silver can. I started
with a GT-Tuned (same as the Avante), but then when I went to drive it I
found it was actually slower than my Vanquish with a Sport Tuned.
That's not acceptable. I swapped in a Super Stock TZ motor and
that really made it come alive. This is a wonderful buggy to
drive, and much more durable than the original due to the nice machined
front uprights.
