Page 1: Unboxing
There are a whole lot of photos dedicated to unboxing because there is a
whole lot of stuff in the box. Not only are there a myriad of
parts, there is a tremendous amount of packaging as well.
When you first open the smallish box, you cannot be prepared for just
how much is inside. The first thing you see is the manual and the
very long steel frame rails packed diagonally.
Make no mistake, this is quality stuff. Pretty much every
parts tree is individually bagged and wrapped. The top layer is a
bunch of gray molded trees. Under that we see the individual axle
boxes, the tires, and hints of more underneath.
The majority of the gray molded parts are for the cabin. Here we
can see the rear panel, the seats, the roof, the doors, the fenders, and
other sundries. This will all have to be glued together like a
traditional model kit.
More plastic parts, much smaller this time. We have parts for the
engine bay, the spare tire rack, and cabin details. The black
parts are mostly used on the chassis.
The gearbox comes preassembled with a 35 turn brushed motor already
attached. I'm not sure why they chose to do it this way since the
manual does come with instructions for this bit and I would have
preferred to build it myself. In any case, it is well built and
greased out of the box.
These three orange boxes contain the axles, all different. The
front axle obviously steers, but is also driven since this is a
6x6. The rear axles are the same except that the center axle has a
pass-through for the drive shaft. The other bag contains flat
plastic parts. There are a LOT of parts in there and they are used
to build the bed. The small bag is deceptive because flat parts
pack so well. There is a lot of construction contained in that one
bag.
There are 7 tires altogether including a full size spare. Unlike
the main wheels though, the spare has a faux plastic wheel rather than
the steel beadlocks of the other wheels. These are nice quality
rubber tires with foams.
These bags contain the considerable pile of parts for the 6 steel
beadlock wheels. Each wheel has a front and back cap as well as a
machined hub.
Now let's get to the hardware. This is a very heavy bag filled
with steel fasteners and other related parts. The right hand image
shows the contents of the larger bag with each fastener type
individually bagged. These are not sorted by the order they are
used in the instructions, but rather by size and type so you may need
any bag at any time.
That's not all the hardware, that was just the fastneres. Now we
get to the miscellaneous metal bits. There are leaf springs,
chassis guards, drive shafts, shocks, and lots of other good stuff including a speaker for an optional sound system.
Even more metal. The good stuff just keeps coming. I don't
even know what all this stuff is yet. In the right hand image are
the hoops for the bed and also the lighting kit which includes printed
circuit boards.
