I already own a TRX-4 Bronco so there was really no reason to buy
this. No reason except that body is so incredibly excellent.
I convinced myself that it would be good to have two different model
years of the Bronco. I had some rationalization but I can't even
remember what it is now. Doesn't matter. Now I own it.
One thing I did differently with this 2021 Bronco compared to my
previous 1979 Bronco was to immediately tear apart the whole model
before even driving it. This allowed me to build it as a kit and
enjoy that experience. I don't regret it. I am much more
attached to the model now. I also added the excellent Pro Scale
lighting kit and winch, but other than that this model is completely
stock. One thing that is new for this model compared to the old
model is the clipless body mounting system which completely hides the
mounts beneath the body and integrates them into the inner
fenders. This is something that works perfectly and should have
been done a long time ago.
This is a 1/10 scale trail crawler with 4WD and 4-link suspension, but
it is unusual in many ways. Firstly, it has portal axles which
increases ground clearance. Next, it has a two speed transmission
with high and low range. Finally, it has remote locking front and
rear differentials. This means there are 3 tiny switching servos
in addition to the steering servo. The 4 channel transmitter allows the normal throttle and steering
control along with a 2-way switch for the transmission and a 3-way
switch for the differentials. The modes are: all open, front
locked, and all locked. Another handy feature is "cruise control"
which will allow the truck to go at a fixed throttle setting with no
transmitter input. Contrary to most of my builds, I actually retained the RTR radio to make use of those extra features.
Update: This model was destroyed in the 2022 fire. It has not been replaced.
