Traxxas Slash 4x4 Project

I had a Slash phase.  After returning to the RC hobby with a vengeance in my adulthood with an X-Maxx, I wanted to get my kids involved.  I took a couple of daughters to the hobby store and they each picked out a Slash: a pink one and a Hawaiian one.  I didn't know much about the Slash at the time, but after we got home and they started driving them, I found myself jealous.  So I went right back to the store the same day and got myself a brushless 4x4.  At the time I bought it, it wore a Mark Jenkins body as shown on the left.  I bashed it around for a couple of weeks and was very impressed.  I hadn't started my kit phase yet, but I had a strong urge to tinker so I went momentarily insane.  I replaced pretty much every part on the entire truck (except the ones which really matter: the electronics).  I put on RPM arms, low CG kit, aluminum hubs and shock towers, GTR shocks, the works.  You can see the extent of the upgrades in the table below.  The change which required the most work was an RC Screws stainless screw kit which required a complete teardown of the model, so I got to build it like a kit after all.  It still wasn't enough so I also got a Killer Bodies body shell with interior and filled it with 18 LED lights.  I run this on 3S and beat it pretty hard.  I don't think I've broken a single part, but I did throw the pins out of the expensive Traxxas CVD axles and had to switch back to the stock plastic telescoping axles.  I'm still using the stock tires which seem to last almost forever.

About a year later, I sold this model.  By then I had built my own short course truck from scratch and I just didn't have the same emotional attachment to this one as an RTR.  I took a huge loss on the sale, but I bet someone is enjoying it immensely.  I sometimes regret the sale because I don't really have another 4WD SCT.
