I
bought the 4-TEC Ford GT on a whim. I was at my local hobby store
buying parts for some scale trail rig or another and the first shipment
of the GT had just come in. At this point, I had never owned a
touring car and I figured an RTR was a good place to start. I was
right. While not necessarily any faster than some of my off road
trucks, a purpose built on road car handles totally differently.
For one thing, you don't have to worry about it flipping over.
Turns are much tighter and quicker, and acceleration and braking are
sharper. This is an AWD, shaft driven car with four wheel double
wishbone suspension. The stock power system is a brushed Titan 550
12 turn motor. The model does not come with a battery, but a
7-cell NiMH from a Slash is what I used. The car is plenty fast
for the street in front of my house, and it makes a lovely high pitched
screaming noise almost like a real V-12. The body is really well
done and quite scale accurate, although mine quickly picked up a couple
of holes from the teeth of my dog. The sound drives him
crazy.
I haven't made any upgrades to this set. A brushless power system
is available now, but I actually think it is unnecessary. I am
even still on the factory tires which are wearing surprisingly well.
After I started building my own touring cars I sold this model. By
then the body was pretty beat up with some dog tooth holes in it, but
it still ran great.
