Axial SCX10 III Project
Page 3: Upgrades!
The truck is plenty well equipped out of the box, but I decided to go a
few steps further with the upgrades. Why not ruin the handling by
raising the center of gravity?
I started with the front wheel arches. The stock fenders look very
nice, but I wanted them to light up. Luckily, CCHand offers a
direct replacement. Unluckily, they are impossible to find and I
had to order them from a shady overseas company. They took 3 months to
arrive, but I have to admit that they look really good. Before and
after shown above.
I got a big lighting set made especially for this body from My Trick
RC. I was not necessarily interested in dash lighting, but they
came with the set. I had to strip some of the black paint from
behind the gauges and then install some 3D printed light buckets with
chip lights. The result is shown on the right. The marker lights and dash lights come on together.
The stock body has buckets for the tail lights, but since the reverse
light sits in the middle it would also be lit by any installed
LED. The 3D printed inserts shown block the light from getting to
the clear reverse section and limit the light to the red areas.
The controller that came with the lighting kit connects to the throttle
channel so that these get brighter when braking.
The inner fenders of the chassis are already provisioned for rock
lights. The light kit came with chip lights for all 4 corners, and
they are incredibly bright as you can see. These can be turned on
via an additional channel on the radio.
The light kit came with both 5mm LEDs for the headlights and also halo
lights as shown. These can be adjusted to 3 levels of brightness
from the radio.
This substantial metal roof rack is from CC Hand. It is heavy and
therefore probably not great for handling, but it sure does look good.
