I
bought the Rock Rey for two reasons. First, I wanted to try out a
Losi kit. The only other Losi product I had was the 6iX which was
an RTR. Second, I wanted to see how it compares to the Axial RR10
Bomber which on the surface is extremely similar. While they are
both models of desert racers with 2.2" wheels, the Rock Rey has
independent front suspension (IFS) instead of a solid axle. It
also has a differential in front. I was inspired by a build video
by RC Network to make a bunch of upgrades, and I picked a few others to do myself including my first try at a body wrap.This is a very capable vehicle. With the crazy power system I put in it, it's fast or slow and will go over anytthing. It seems pretty durable too with the exception of the "upgraded" lower links which break every time it flips. Since I don't race, the Proline tires were probably unnecessary since the stock tires appear to be very good, but I will hopefully use them on another project at some point. Overall I really like this desert racer and it has proven a lot more durable than the Bomber.
I wanted this vehicle to stand out a bit which is hard to do with nothing but a few flat panels for decoration, so I decided to go with a full body wrap from Freqeskinz which looks really nice. Combined with the excellent wheels, huge tires, and working light bar this is a really attractive vehicle.
Update: This model was destroyed in the 2022 fire. It is no longer available as a kit and has not been replaced.
