Tamiya Montero Project
Page 1: Assembly
The Montero uses the same CW-01 chassis as the Midnight Pumpkin
and the Lunch Box. I've already documented the build of this
chassis in detail on my Midnight Pumpkin page, so please visit there for more information.
The Montero Wheelie comes in a very large box with what appears to be
classic art, although the art has been updated to include the much
larger wheels of the CW-01 chassis. On the right you can see the
very small number of parts laid out on my build table. This will
be a very simple build.
Here is the completed chassis with the massive monster truck tires and
tub chassis. The stubby Montero body looks short and stubby atop
it. This is a real molded hard body so lots of details still need
to be added.
For what seems to be a plain white body a lot of detail paints were
required. The spare tire, tool box, fire extinguisher, and straps
all get different colors. The grille and bumpers also need to be
painted in detail. I painted the body in standard white.
Then the roll bar, tinted windows, and lights can be installed
followed by the huge pile of stickers. I put a layer of clear coat
over the whole thing.
Here's the completed Montero in stock form without any modifications. It only stayed this way for a few hours.
