Tamiya Blackfoot Project
Page 1: Assembly
I didn't record any details of the gearbox assembly here for some reason. Please see my Frog page for more information.
The Blackfoot comes in a modest box with classic artwork. Inside
there are no special inner boxes or blister packs, but everything is
nicely organized and each parts tree is individually bagged as usual for
Tamiya.
Once the parts are laid out on the table you can see that this is a
pretty simple model. On the right you can see the unusual ORV (Off
Road Vehicle) space frame chassis that comes from the Brat.
Compared to that chassis, this has been modified to allow the use of
long travel oil shocks but the frame is the same.
Here you can see the tall front shock tower, the electronics cover, and
the notoriously weak rear gearbox. The re-re uses updated drive
shafts without the hex drive of the original.
The rear suspension is cantilevered rather than using a shock
tower. This keeps the rear end low to allow a pick-up body.
The stickers are large and flat so pretty simple to apply.
