What
is Tamico and what is this special edition Avante that technically
didn't come from Tamiya? Just like TamiyaUSA is a division of
Tamiya that serves the North American market, Tamico resides in Germany
and serves the European market. From time to time they do their
own limited edition versions of Tamiya models in small batches. In
this case, they took the
47390
Black Edition of the 2011 Avante and changed a few parts to make it the
"Earth Force Pace Car".
As far as I can tell, this livery is
entirely whimsical. While there is an actual environmental
organization called Earth Force in Denver, they have a different logo
and I can't imagine they would sponsor anything racing related.
There is also no trademark anywhere on the packaging of the model
related to the name. The body is standard Avante, but the paint
colors have been altered. While the original was metallic blue and
the black edition was obviously black, this one is two tone silver and
metallic green. A
custom sticker sheet has been included which is used along with
portions of the original stickers. The pink wheels of the black
edition (which originally came from the Vanquish) have been molded in
lime green instead, and the tires and foams have been replaced with
versions from Schumacher. I wonder what they did with the wheels
and tires that were originally in the box? Nothing has changed
mechanically from
the regular black edition. The model comes in the regular black
edition box, but a full size printed insert has been placed over the
cover and one side which shows the custom livery and the
numbering. As you can see at left, I got #78 out of a total
production run of 333 models. This kit has unique model number
because it does not come from Tamiya directly.
